Jared Shank honored with Outstanding Service Award from Midwestern Higher Education Compact

Jared Shank, Ohio Department of Higher Education, receives MHEC's Outstanding Service Award from President Susan HeegaardColumbus, OH — Jared Shank, senior director of military and apprenticeship initiatives and special projects for the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Articulation & Transfer Network, was recognized by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) as a recipient of their Outstanding Service Award on November 15, during the commission’s Annual Commission Meeting, held in Columbus, Ohio.

“Jared has been a major contributor in building the foundation of our work in transitioning military-connected students in their pursuit of a postsecondary education,” stated Susan Heegaard, MHEC president. “His connections in higher education and the military have been instrumental in Ohio’s work to promote stronger pathways for military-connected students to meet their educational goals.”

“Ohio has become one of the best states in the nation for veterans and service members and their families,” Chancellor Randy Gardner said. “Jared’s work is a big reason why Ohio offers so much support for military-connected families.”

Shank was nominated for his contributions to MHEC’s Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit (MCMC). He has been involved with the MCMC work for over eight years helping to facilitate interstate partnerships and striving to translate competencies acquired through military training and experiences towards meaningful credits towards postsecondary pathways.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with MCMC and MHEC over the past several years,” Shank said. “MCMC has always had an excellent network of experts to share ideas and information, and I look forward to continued work with MHEC and MCMC in the future. I'm humbled by this recognition and I would like to thank many of our own staff as well as the MHEC staff, who have helped create an excellent work environment and make outstanding service possible.”

While MHEC’s grant funding for this initiative has concluded, Shank continues to champion this work in Ohio, the MHEC region, and nationally. He brings expertise in many areas, including Military Transfer Agreements, Joint Service Transcripts, and the GI Bill.
