Congratulations, Dr. Eisler!

INDIANAPOLIS, IN; MINNEAPOLIS, MN; and BIG RAPIDS, MI – Dr. David Eisler, president of Ferris State University in Michigan, was elected vice chair of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) on November 19, during the commission’s semi-annual meeting held in Indianapolis, Ind. One of four regional higher education compacts in the United States, MHEC is legislatively created and the Compact’s purpose is to provide greater higher education opportunities and services in the Midwest.

Dr. Eisler visits with Rep. Dennis Johnson (ND).

“Dr Eisler will serve us well as our new vice chair,” said Susan Heegaard, MHEC president. “His leadership this past year as MHEC’s treasurer and his leadership of our newly formed Finance and Audit Committee have demonstrated his thoroughness and provided constructive feedback essential to leading MHEC forward.”

Dr. Eisler was originally appointed to the commission in 2004. He was reappointed in 2017 for the fourth time, serving a four-year term on MHEC’s governing board.

Commissioner Olivia Madison (IA), Governor Kim Reynold’s designee, will serve as chair; Rep. Rick Carfagna, chair of the Finance Subcommittee on Higher Education for the Ohio House of Representatives, was elected treasurer, and Dr. Ken Sauer, senior associate commissioner and chief academic officer for the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, will serve as past chair.

Michigan has been a member since the Compact’s creation signing legislation in 1990 to join. MHEC’s states are synonymous with the Midwest census region states.
