About this Indicator
This indicator shows pre-K expenditures per enrolled child. State preschool programs are defined according to whether the initiative is (a) controlled and funded by the state; (b) primarily focused on early childhood education for 3- and/or 4-year old children at least two days per week; (c) differentiated from child care subsidies; and (d) intended to serve all students, not just those with disabilities. NIEER qualifies state supplements to Head Start if the program is under state administration and student enrollment is significantly expanded.
