SUMMARY:Lemonade from Lemons: How We Are Navigating the Unexpected in Our SIS Implementation
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly Technologies Community Coffee Chat will feature a presentation conducted by Angela Neria\, Pittsburg State University’s Chief Information Officer. Angela will share Pittsburg State’s collective approach to navigating the unexpected in their Student Information System (SIS) implementation. Rather than allowing it to derail their plans\, Pittsburg State has been making lemonade from lemons—by turning the challenge into an opportunity for growth and innovation. Angela will discuss the strategies being used for maintaining momentum\, keeping stakeholders engaged\, and enhancing preparedness for the eventual rollout. A key component of Pittsburg State’s approach is ensuring clear and transparent communication and creating both internal and external partnerships. This Coffee Chat will provide valuable insights into managing project disruptions\, fostering resilience\, and leading through effective communication. \nThis Coffee Chat is open to attendees beyond MHEC’s Technologies Community. For more information on the community and how to access this event\, please contact Benjamin Coder.

SUMMARY:Midwest Student Exchange Program: Cost Savings Finder Tech Forum and User Focus Group
DESCRIPTION:MHEC is exploring the development of a Cost Savings Finder tool to make it easier for students and families to find and compare tuition savings options — including Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) discounts\, reciprocity agreements\, and non-differential tuition programs. \nBy consolidating these opportunities into one accessible platform\, the Cost Savings Finder aims to make tuition and affordability information easier to find\, more transparent\, and comparable across states — helping students and families make informed postsecondary choices. \nIncrease Discount Transparency: Your insights can help us design a more robust and scalable technology platform — key to increasing awareness of tuition discounts in the Midwest\, helping more students achieve significant tuition savings. \nSolve Data Pipeline Challenges: We’ll explore best practices for moving\, updating\, and ensuring the quality and refresh rate of institutional data (e.g.\, tuition\, program availability) on the proposed Cost Savings Finder tool to guarantee students have the most accurate information. \nShape AI and Data Sharing Policy: We’ll discuss the technical architecture and compliance needed for data sharing agreements\, including potential uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the development of responsible AI and data governance policies. \nInform High-Level Decisions: This forum offers a chance to directly influence the future of a major regional student exchange resource. Your recommendations will guide MHEC’s approach to system security\, data compliance\, and responsible AI implementation. \nYour contributions will help ensure this initiative reflects the highest standards of technological integrity\, usability\, and regional collaboration. \nYour expertise is also vital to ensuring the Cost Savings Finder is built on a strong and sustainable information foundation. In particular\, we’re seeking input from professionals who can help us: \n \n\nExplore early concepts and potential designs for the tool.\nDiscuss how different audiences—students\, families\, counselors\, and institutions—might use it.\nIdentify ways to ensure the tool is intuitive\, accurate\, and appropriate to meet the needs of users.\n\nYour feedback will be critical in shaping how users interact with the Cost Savings Finder and how it can most effectively serve the region. \n \nFor more information contact Carrie Wandler\, Senior Director of Policy Initiatives.

SUMMARY:Sharing the Cost: Insights from States Funding Dual Enrollment to Expand Access
DESCRIPTION:One of the most pressing barriers to dual enrollment access\, enrollment\, and attainment is the patchwork nature of how dual enrollment is funded. States vary widely in their models\, with some providing robust\, sustainable streams of funding while others placing the cost burden on K-12 systems\, postsecondary institutions\, or even families and students themselves. How states design and implement dual enrollment funding policies has a direct impact on which students can participate and thrive. \nOver the past decade\, several states have reimagined their funding models\, resulting in meaningful gains in participation and attainment. In this webinar\, Bellwether staff member Krista Kaput will share insights and lessons learned from their 2025 report\, Sharing the Cost: Insights from States Funding Dual Enrollment to Expand Access. The report includes case studies on California\, Idaho\, Minnesota\, and Texas\, highlighting how state funding models can serve as levers for expanding access\, participation\, and attainment in dual enrollment. \nPresenter: \nKrista Kaput\, Senior Analyst\, Bellwether \nPanelists will explore: \n\nThe fiscal and policy trade-offs states navigate when structuring dual enrollment funding systems;\nState-level funding strategies that directly affect student access and participation\, with examples of promising models;\nTargeted investments that can open the door for various student groups;\nKey lessons from states that have successfully advanced equitable access through policy reform.
